OBITUARY
Helen
Ruth Nelson
(1927 - 2017)
Funeral Services for Helen R. Nelson, 89, of Haskell, formerly of
Canton, TX, will be held at 11 am, Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Eubank
Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Holly Springs Cemetery. Helen
went on to be with the Lord on July 4, 2017 at her home. Helen was born
November 1, 1927 in Frederick, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late Grady
Mann and Mittie Leona Nixon Mann. She graduated high school from
Carrolton High School. On April 20, 1946, she married Joe Nelson in
Dallas, TX. Joe and Helen were involved in many business entities
throughout their marriage, including Nelson Brothers, Nelson Concrete
and WesTex Sand & Gravel. She was a member of the First Baptist Church
in Canton. Helen was very talented and enjoyed making hand-made quilts.
She was a long-time member of the Van Zandt County Extension Club. She
was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 61 years, Joe Nelson;
daughter, Brenda Carrithers; 1 brother and 4 sisters. Helen is survived
by daughters, Debbie Strickland and husband David of Haskell; Donna
Taylor of Canton; Patti Hopkins and husband Guy of Lago Vista; 6
grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and dear
friends. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00pm, Friday at Eubank
Funeral Home in Canton
