OBITUARY
CARROLLTON — The Creekview Mustangs faced a tremendously
difficult football game on Saturday morning, but the team played with
heart.
Players ran onto the field carrying the letter jacket of 17-year-old
senior linebacker Kiet Nguyen. He was found dead inside his home on
Friday; the cause of death has not yet been determined.
His teammates wore towels with his number — 9. There was also a moment
of silence before kickoff.
Kiet was loved by Creekview students. "He wanted the best in his life,
and the best in everyone else's life," said teammate Miquan Robinson.
"He meant like a best friend I've never had... he was always there,"
added classmate Erika Castaneda.
On Friday night, hundreds of students filled campus for a touching
candlelight memorial. At that vigil, his football family pledged to win
on Saturday for Kiet.
They did — in a a 24-21 victory over Timber Creek.
In a note posted on the school's website, Creekview principal Joseph La
Puma said counseling will be available for grieving classmates. |

OBITUARY
Creekview football player's death ruled heroin
overdose
By Jared Watson, [email protected]
Kiet Nguyen, a Carrollton Creekview football player who was found dead
in his home last month, died of a heroin overdose, according to a report
from the Tarrant County Medical Examiner.
According to the report released on Monday, Nguyen's cause of death was
accidental acute heroin intoxication.
According to Jon Stovall, public information officer for the Carrollton
Police Department, Nguyen's case is still under investigation, and has
been since his death.
Stovall also said Carrollton PD has not noticed an increase in the
number of overdose deaths in the city.
"Unfortunately we, like all cities our size, deal with deaths from
overdose," Stovall said. "Not all overdose deaths are from a controlled
substance, many are a result of prescription medication."
Stovall said Carrollton PD has not yet determined what method was used
to introduce the heroin into Nguyen's body, and that no needles or drug
paraphernalia were found at the scene.
The Creekview Mustangs dedicated their victory over Keller Timber Creek
on Sept. 14 to Nguyen, and held a moment of silence before the game in
his honor. |
