OBITUARY
Wreck at Gravel Pit Causes death of R. L. Noell
R. L. Noell of Farmers Branch lost his life in an auto wreck on Northwest
highway, at the point where Willow Brook road intersects the said highway,
Friday morning about 9 o'clock. Mr. Noell is a driver on a county truck hauling
gravel and had just come from the pit a short distance away with a load of
gravel. As he crossed the highway his truck was struck by a passenger car
traveling northwest and he was thrown from the cab of the car and the rear wheel
of the truck passed over his body, crushing him.
The passenger car was driven by Jack Marshall of Van Alstyne and he claims he
did not see the truck coming onto the highway until it was too late to avoid
hitting it. Both cars were badly damaged and three of the occupants of the
passenger car were injured. All injured persons were hastened to Parkland
hospital, Mr. Noell dying before reaching there.
Reports state that a party of Van Alstyne high school students were on their way
to Ft. Worth to spend the day, this car car containing four of the students and
S. S. Marshall, father of Jack Marshall who was driving the car. The other
cars of the party continued on their way to Ft. Worth while those in this car,
who were able to appear, went before the grand jury which was in session to tell
what they knew about the wreck.
Mr. Noell had been an employee of the county for twelve or more years, he was 41
years of age and is married and has four children. Funeral services were held in
the Farmers Branch Methodist church Sunday afternoon, Rev. Orbin Turner assisted
by Rev. Ramsey of Farmers Branch Baptist church conducting the services;
interment being in the Webb Chapel Cemetery.
