OBITUARY

Thomas Jefferson "Tom" Norman, Jr.

Thomas J. "Tom" Norman, 98, a resident of Irving since 2016, formerly a long-time resident of Richardson (1965-2016) died Saturday, March 22, 2025 surrounded by his family at home.
Born February 21, 1927 in Dallas, Texas, Tom was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson Norman Sr. and Susan Emily Holcomb. He married Bertha Marie Barina January 30, 1948 in Austin. Tom served in the U.S. Navy in post-WWII Japan, then attended the University of Texas on the G.I. bill and received an Electrical Engineering degree in 1949. He helped usher in the computer age in the 1950s at IBM and Univac and served as Vice President of Operations at BancTec. In retirement, Tom volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and the local neighborhood watch. Tom was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, and his main concern in life was taking care of his family.
Tom was preceded in death by Bertha, his spouse of almost 75 years; his parents; three sisters Helen Nelson, Bernice Friguesi, and Carole Bates; and a granddaughter, Sophia Caeli Norman. He is survived by five children, Stephen Norman of Dallas, Laura Tunnell of Santa Barbara, CA, Daniel Norman and wife Karen of Midland, TX, Timothy Norman and wife Viki of Irving, TX and Cynthia Norman of San Francisco, CA; ten grand children, Joseph Norman, Michael Norman, Catherine Deitchman, Jimmy Norman, David Norman, Michele Binayak, Angela Norman, Ana Norman, Francesca Norman, and Isabella Norman; and seventeen great grandchildren, Luke, Damian, Arianna, Ronan, Fulton, Mairin, Ambrose, Lilly, Samuel, Hudson, Chloe, Jonah, Brendan, Zachary, Owen, Abigail, and Shane.
The family will receive friends 5:00 PM to – 8:00 PM Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Colonial Funeral Home of Irving, 606 West Airport Freeway 75062, with a rosary at 7:00 PM. The Requiem Mass will be 9:30 AM on Friday, April 4, 2025 at Mater Dei Latin Mass Parish, 2030 East State Highway 356, Irving, TX 75060, Burial will follow at approximately 11:45 AM at Calvary Hill Cemetery, 3235 Lombardy Lane, Dallas TX 75220. There will be a reception following the committal service in the funeral home at Calvary Hill.
