Services held for Donald Ray Norton, ex-Farmers Branch officer

Services for retired Farmers Branch police Officer Donald Ray Norton were held Wednesday at Restland Funeral Home's main chapel.

Mr. Norton, 69, died Sunday after heart surgery at Wesley Hospital in Wichita, Kan. He was buried at Restland Memorial Park.

Born in in Whiteflat, Texas, Mr. Norton graduated from high school in nearby Matador.

Mr. Norton was a police officer in Midland for 11 years, first as a patrolman and later as a communications sergeant, said his wife, Mary Norton of Farmers Branch. He next worked for the Midland County Sheriff's Department.

In 1967, Mr. Norton joined the Farmers Branch Police Department, where he was a sergeant of communications for 10 years.

"He loved people," Mrs. Norton said.

Mr. Norton was a 32nd degree Mason, a Shriner and a member of the Southwestern Law Association and the First Baptist Church in Farmers Branch.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Norton is survived by a son, Alan Winstead of Louisville, Ky.; six daughters, Judy Frazier of Garland, Sandra Norton of Lufkin, Texas, Barbara Miller and Doreena Vidaurri of Emory, Texas, Donna Eason of Crosby, Texas, and Laura Arnold of Quinlan, Texas; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Udall, Kan., where Mr. Norton had been attending services.
