OBITUARY
RUTH V. NYFELER
Word was received here of the death of Ruth Vernon Nyfeler, 86, a former
Brownsville resident, who died Saturday, Jan. 7, 1995.
She was born in Carnegie, Okla., to Walter Newton Vernon, a prominent early-day
Methodist minister, and Fannie Hawling Dodd Vernon. A graduate of Southern
Methodist University, she taught in public schools in the Dallas area and in Del
Rio. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, Past Matron, and 50-year
member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Daughters of the
Nile. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution in which her
membership established a new entry in the organization's Patriot Index. She was
preceded in death by her husband, George Losee Nyfeler, in September 1993.
Survivors include three sons, George Losee Nyfeler Jr. of Colorado Springs,
Colo., John Vernon Nyfeler of Austin and James Dwight Nyfeler of Plano; a
daughter, Ruth Virginia Nyfeler Steele of Kerrville; a brother, Dodd Vernon of
Dallas; two sisters, Mary Pauline Vernon Miller and Opal Frances Vernon
Nicholls, both of Dallas; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m today at Rhoton Funeral Home in
Carrollton with burial at Furneaux Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at
2:30 p.m. at C.C. Young Memorial Home in Dallas with the Rev. N.C. Thomas
officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Order of the Eastern Star or to the donor's
favorite charity.
