OBITUARY OLIVER
PEGGY JEAN PERRY born on February 10, 1926, and passed away on September 22,
2001 in Dallas, Texas. Mrs. Edward D. Oliver was a native of Carrollton and a
descendent of A. W. Perry. She was a founding member of the
Peters Colony and
Carrollton Historical Preservation Society as well as an active member of
several local civic organizations. It has even been noted by a past Carrollton
mayor, Mr. Milburn Gravely that Mrs. Oliver was an "official historian" of
Carrollton. Peggy had a love for both reading and gardening and a special
interest in genealogical research for her family and friends. Mrs. Oliver is
survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Edward D. Oliver; daughter, Fancy
Tanner, and husband Michael; son, Joe Oliver and wife Della; granddaughters,
Deanna McDearmont and Catherine Oliver; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Kaitlyn
McDearmont and many other loving family members, friends and associates.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 24, 2001 from 6-8 pm at Rhoton
Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, September 25, 2001 at
2:00 p.m. at Perry Cemetery. In
lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Carrollton Public Library in honor
of Mrs. Oliver.

OBITUARY
Peggy Oliver
Peggy Jean Perry Oliver, 75, of Carrollton, a local leader in historical
documentation and preservation, died Saturday.
Mrs. Oliver was born Feb. 10, 1926, and was a great-granddaughter of
A.W. and Sarah Perry, who came to
the area in 1844 and were among the Peters colonists who settled the
Carrollton-Trinity Mills area. She was a 1943 graduate of Carrollton High
School. She retired in 1988 from E.F. Hauserman Co.
Her investigation of her family history started her interest in genealogical
research. The interest became a passion and expanded to a body of research that
included many families and occupied much of her time for more than 30 years,
filling three rooms of her house and a computer, her family said.
She was a founding member of the Peters Colony Historical Society and of the
Carrollton Historical Preservation Commission and was active in other local
civic organizations. For many years she was editor and a frequent contributor to
Elm Fork Echoes, the official publication of the Peters Colony Historical
Society.
Former Carrollton Mayor Milburn Gravley said he regarded Mrs. Oliver as the
"official historian" of Carrollton. Friends often turned to her for help with
genealogical research, and she was the author of many applications for Texas
Historical Commission markers in Carrollton, Farmers Branch, Coppell, Grapevine,
Denton and Dallas. She was instrumental in the founding of the A.W. Perry
Homestead Museum, and she served on the boards of the Carrollton Public Library
and the Perry Cemetery Association.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Edward D. Oliver; daughter, Fancy
Tanner; son, Joe Oliver; granddaughters, Deanna McDearmont and Catherine Oliver;
and great-grandchildren, Ryan and Kaitlyn McDearmont.
Graveside service was Tuesday at Perry Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Carrollton Public Library.

Peggy Jean Perry Oliver, 75, died of a blood infection Saturday in Dallas.
Services were Tuesday.
Ms. Oliver was a native of Carrollton and a great-granddaughter of
A.W. and Sarah Perry, some of the
original settlers in the Trinity Mills and Carrollton areas.
She was a founding member of the
Peters Colony Historical Society.
Former Mayor Milburn Gravely dubbed Ms. Oliver the "official historian" of
Carrollton, said Fancy Tanner, Ms. Oliver's daughter.
Ms. Oliver was born Feb. 2, 1926, in Carrollton and graduated from Carrollton
High School. She married Edward D. Oliver in 1949 and worked as officer manager
for E.F. Hauserman Co.
Ms. Oliver was key in the development of the A.W. Perry Homestead Museum. She
also served on the boards of the Perry Cemetery Association and the Carrollton
Library. She was chairwoman of the Historical Preservation Advisory Committee.
In addition to Ms. Tanner of Arlington and Mr. Oliver of Carrollton, Ms. Oliver
is survived by a son, Joe Oliver of Lewisville; two granddaughters; and two
