OBITUARY

Jessie G Owens
FEBRUARY 1, 1919 – DECEMBER 6, 2020

In Loving Memory
Jessie G Owens was born February 1, 1919, in Kenefic, Oklahoma, to Eula Lee Macready and William Leslie Guthrie. She died December 6, 2020, at the age of 101 in Dallas, Texas.

She spent her childhood years in Caddo, Oklahoma, where her father was a pharmacist and her mother was a homemaker. Her four sisters and their families provided a fun and loving home in which to grow up. She attended Caddo schools and graduated from Southeastern State College with a teaching degree.

In the late 30s, the J.W. Owens family moved to Caddo from Arkansas in order for their 10 children to attend college at Southeastern. One of those sons was Clinton Owens, who became the love of her life. They were married May 10, 1941, and were happily married until his death in 2004. They had two daughters, Kathleen and Margaret.

For many years Jessie and Clinton lived in Durant, Oklahoma where he worked for Prudential Insurance Company. In 1957 the family moved to Healdton, Oklahoma where they both became school teachers in the Healdton schools. In 1962 they moved to Carrollton, Texas to be teachers in the Carrollton School District.

Jessie taught third grade until retiring in 1973. Clinton taught 7th grade math and later became principal of MacLaughlin Elementary School. They were longtime Methodists, the latest being the First Methodist Church of Carrollton.

Jessie loved spending time with the family and having them visit their home, especially for special celebrations. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, embroidery, crocheting, knitting, reading, gardening, writing poetry, crossword puzzles (especially the New York Times Sunday edition) and square dancing with Clinton.

She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, Clinton Owens, her four sisters; Mildred Meadows, Hilda Wood, Nadine Hagood, and Myra Jean Cunningham. She is survived by daughters Kathleen Ernest and Margaret Semon; grandchildren Mike Ernest, Stephen Ernest, Melinda Gresham, and Kim Land. Great-grandchildren Katie Presley, Laurie Lovett, Tyler Ernest, Cody Ernest, Alyssa Perry, Nathan Gresham, Sydney Land and Addison Land. Great-great-grandchildren Kade and Breck Presley, Kace and Brody Lovett, Ezra and Ella Perry, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Arrangements will be held at Rhoton Funeral Home for immediate family only.
