We are gathered here today to remember Peggy Ann Peters, beloved mother,
grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was born in Iredell, Texas on November
18, 1931 to Walter Hayden Pylant and Nettie Romania Gann. She departed this life
on June 10, 2024 at her home in Austin, Texas. In her final days, she was
surrounded by people who loved her. While her family and friends will forever
mourn her loss, we are here today to celebrate the beautiful life she lived. Let
us honor Peggy by celebrating everything she cherished with joy and love.
Peggy loved to watch birds. She always kept bird feeders close to the living
room window. For many years, her Christmas tree would find a new purpose as a
feeding station for her precious feathered friends on the deck. It was a simple
joy that brought her heart so much warmth and delight. Peggy shared her love of
birdwatching with her beloved husband, Edwin, and together, they embarked on
countless adventures to state and national parks, carefully documenting each and
every variety of bird they encountered. Their shared passion for birdwatching
brought them immense joy and fulfillment over the years.
Peggy loved red roses, and she loved to travel. She and Edwin had a travel
trailer for many years, and with it they embarked on countless memorable
adventures as they explored the beauty of parks across Texas and beyond. Some of
Peggy's favorite places included Yellowstone National Park, Mustang Island State
Park, and Goose Island State Park.
Peggy loved chocolate-covered cherries, and she loved her job. She began working
for the Securities Board as a part-time file clerk after looking in the phone
book for a job near where Ed worked. Peggy dedicated herself to her work with
the Securities Board, taking on extra responsibilities within the division and
eventually earning the position of Director. This job not only allowed her to
pursue her love of travel, but it also fueled her passion for exploring new
places. Some of Peggy’s favorite work trips were to the vibrant streets of New
Orleans and the breathtaking landscapes of Hawaii.
More than anything, Peggy loved her family. Peggy met her husband, Edwin, while
they were students at Clifton Junior College. They fell in love on a choir trip
to sing at the Hollywood Bowl. Edwin wrote many love letters to his darling
Peggy while they were courting, and she cherished these letters for the rest of
her life. Edwin and Peggy had five children, eight grandchildren, and five
great-grandchildren. Peggy's favorite time of year was Christmas, when the
entire family would gather together at her house, enjoy her beautiful Christmas
decorations, listen to Christmas music, and feast on Peggy’s turkey and
dressing, which was always prepared to perfection.
Peggy has many family members who will be waiting for her in Heaven. She is
preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Nettie; her brother, Ray, and his
wife, Georgia; her sons, Paul and Dan; her son-in-law, Mike; her granddaughter,
Aubrey; and her beloved husband, Edwin. Peggy leaves a legacy through her
children, Marsha, Susan and her husband Bill, and Brandy and her husband Josh;
her grandchildren, Jeremy, Chris and his wife Cindy, Billie Rose, Tyler, Hayden,
Katy, and Izzy; and her great-grandchildren, Odie, Loki, Morgan Jayne, Taylor,
and Rainey.
Despite the immense sorrow Peggy's family feels over her passing, they are also
filled with deep gratitude for the cherished memories they hold dear of Peggy -
her immense kindness, unwavering love, and unparalleled support. She will
forever be remembered as the woman who, for so many years, took care of everyone
else. She was truly the most wonderful mom and "Grandmommy," and her memory will
be a guiding star for all who knew her.
