OBITUARY SERVICES WEDNESDAY FOR
CARROLLTON OFFICER
Services for Carrollton police officer Gerhard Richard "Pete' Petersen will be
at 10 a.m. Wednesday at King of Glory Lutheran Church in Dallas.
Petersen, 48, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, eight days
after suffering heatstroke during a long-distance race.
Petersen had been a field training and patrol section officer with the
Carrollton Police Department since 1983. He was named the force's officer of the
year in 1985, relatives said.
A native of Cuero, DeWitt County, Petersen began his law enforcement career with
the Fremont, Neb., Police Department in 1959.
Petersen collapsed June 12 during a 10-kilometer race at the Police Olympics in
Beaumont.
Survivors include his wife, Marlys Petersen of The Colony; his mother, Helene
Petersen of Niobrara, Neb.; two daughters, Pam Petersen of Rockwall and Peg Brune of Dodge, Neb.; two sons, Steve Petersen of Arthur, Neb., and Tom Petersen
of Kearney, Neb.; three brothers, Ralph Petersen of West Chester, Pa., Paul
Petersen of New York City and Richard Petersen of Atchison, Kan.; a sister,
Erika Crosley of Columbus, Neb.; and three grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Carrollton Police Department. The Dallas
