Services scheduled today for Ted Polk, arts director for
Carrollton -FB schools
Services for Ted A. Polk, director of fine arts for
Carrollton -Farmers Branch schools, are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at
Farmers Branch Church of Christ. Burial will follow at
Hilltop Memorial Park in
Carrollton .
Mr. Polk, 51, died Saturday of a heart attack at RHD Memorial Medical Center.
The San Angelo native earned bachelor's and master's degrees in music education
from the University of North Texas. He worked for the school district 27 years,
beginning as choral director at R.L Turner High School.
He moved into district administration in the 1970s, serving as assistant
principal at Vivian Field Junior High School, Perry Junior High and Long Junior
High. Mr. Polk was promoted to fine arts director in 1989.
"He wanted to help the children, and he wanted to serve the teachers best so
they could take care of the students," said his son, Steven Polk. "He was a
proud supporter of the arts, and he fought hard all his life for the arts and
their place in the schools."
Other survivors include his wife, Linda Polk of Carrollton ; two daughters, Keri
Blommer of Abilene and Lori Royals of Carrollton ; his parents, A.C. and Estelle
Polk of Carrollton ; a sister, Artis Hayes of Farmers Branch; a brother, Ken
Polk of Coppell; and six grandchildren
