OBITUARY

G.W. Pollard rites today - retired fire captain was 70

Services for retired Dallas Fire Department Capt. G.W. "Dub" Pollard will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Farmers Branch. Burial will follow at Hilltop Memorial Park in Carrollton.

Mr. Pollard, 70, died Saturday at his residence in Tyler of complications from emphysema.

He retired in June 1978 after 27 years of service. He enjoyed his job because of the association with his co-workers, said his wife, Maurine Pollard of Tyler.

"They all had a good time when they did their job," Mrs. Pollard said. "It was like a family because they had to live day in and day out with their job."

Mr. Pollard and his wife moved to Tyler nine weeks ago after living in Farmers Branch for almost 50 years.

He is also survived by a daughter, Judy Drewry of Tyler; three sons, Tommy Pollard of Dallas and Donny Pollard and David Pollard, both of Farmers Branch; five sisters, Rae Alder and Merle Cashon, both of McKinney, Sadie Spencer of Gainesville, Edelaine Sanders of Meridian, Texas, and Joanne Pollard of Farmers Branch; two brothers, Ed Pollard of Emory, Texas, and James Pollard of San Diego, Calif.; stepmother, Freda Pollard of Farmers Branch; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
