OBITUARY
Betty Merrell Schnorr
December 13, 1928 - January 5, 2015

Betty Merrell Schnorr, a longtime member of the Merrell Cemetery Maintenance Association and former Trustee, passed away on January 5, 2015 in Denton, Texas. She was born in Dallas on December 13, 1928 to Walter E. Merrell and Sarah "Sallie" Thorp Merrell. Until early 2014, when Betty moved to Denton to be nearer family, she lived her entire life within five miles of the Merrell farm on Midway Road, where she and her sister Margaret Jane grew up. Betty attended Walnut Hill School and graduated from Carrollton High School. She briefly attended N.T.S.C. (now UNT) in Denton.

Betty married Gerald Maurice Schnorr on November 28, 1953 at Cochran Chapel Methodist Church. She and Maurice worshiped there for years, as had many members of the Merrell family before them.

During Betty's long career she was employed by Texaco-Seaboard in the payroll department and retired after many years as a personnel specialist in the corporate offices of Kip's Big Boy Restaurants.

Betty and Maurice enjoyed their many interests of cooking, traveling, attending the Dallas Symphony concerts, fishing, and training and spending time with the Labrador Retrievers they welcomed into their home as part of the family.

Maurice preceded Betty in death in May 2010. Survivors include her sister, Margaret Jane Hamilton. Other family members include nephews and nieces Jeffrey Hamilton, Lynne and husband Arthur Gay Leake, great nephews and nieces Casey Leake and wife Katelyn, J.J. Hamilton, Sally Hamilton and husband Alex Martinez, and cousin and lifelong friend Joyce Johnson.
