Gordon F. Schroeder
May 24, 1940 - November 23, 2018
The Reverend Dr. Fr. Gordon F. Schroeder of Carrollton, TX lived
fully alive every moment of his 78 years before stepping off this planet
on November 23, 2018 and into his Welcome Home party where he was
joyously welcomed by Jesus, his parents David and Elizabeth Schroeder,
his siblings Dorothy Wiebe, Ed Schroeder, Wilbur Schroeder, Theresa
Franz, and Raymond Schroeder, as well as many others who have gone
before. Born in Liberal, KS on May 24th, 1940, he brought great joy into
the world of his parents and seven siblings of Adams, OK. He grew up in
a German Mennonite farming community near Adams, milking cows,
harvesting wheat, bucking bales, singing in a Gospel quartet, and
playing basketball, kick the can, and “Pop and Wilbur Construction
Company.” He graduated from Adams High School in 1959 and from Panhandle
A&M in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science degree. After feeling called to
ministry, Gordon attended Dallas Theological Seminary obtaining his
Master of Theology in 1966 and Doctor of Ministry in 1986. He met his
beautiful bride, Martha, at Hidden Falls Ranch (Wayside, TX) where he
was the camp chaplain in 1968. They married in 1969, just six months
after meeting! They would not recommend that to other couples but that
short engagement worked for them. He pastored Gruver Bible Church in
Gruver, TX; Paramount Community Church in Amarillo, TX; and Carrollton
Bible Church in Carrollton, TX. He also served as an elder at Grace
Vineyard Christian Fellowship in Arlington, TX for many years. On
January 30, 2011, he was ordained as a priest in the Anglican Church of
North America and most recently served as the Associate Pastor at Church
of the Resurrection in Flower Mound, TX. In the years when he wasn’t
officially employed by a church, you could find Gordon pastoring the
people he connected with during his time as a Bible salesman, limousine
driver, a GED and Alternative School teacher for DISD and
Carrollton/Farmers Branch. He was a math teacher and basketball coach at
American Heritage Academy, and Medicare Insurance specialist. He touched
the lives of everyone he encountered whether it was the barista at Dunn
Brothers, the local dry cleaners, his parishioners, friends, neighbors,
or his beloved family. He thrived on gathering with family. He
faithfully attended every extended family reunion, funeral, and wedding
that he could, not to mention his immediate family’s concerts, ball
games, recitals, graduations, and birthday parties. His life passion was
to represent Jesus well by loving everyone in his path and sharing the
Gospel through his words and, most importantly, with his life. Gordon
was well-known for his love of Scripture, having committed several books
of the Bible to memory. He brought the memorized passages to life by
reciting them “in character” as the Apostle Paul or Peter or some other
Bible character. He also thoroughly enjoyed square dancing, working on
house projects, taking long bike rides, spending peaceful mornings and
evenings in their flower garden, and traveling with his beloved wife
Martha. Whenever possible he spent time with his wife and daughters
discussing life, theology, and politics; working on projects and playing
golf with his sons-in-law, and connecting with his grandchildren over
meals, in a trampoline park, bowling alley or arcade, over a good game
of Mexican Train, and passing on family traditions and his deep faith
heritage during Camp NeePaw and family gatherings. He faithfully prayed
with his dear wife for each of these by name every day as well as
countless others. Friends and family alike describe Gordon as being
kind, lovely, compassionate, accepting, loyal, faithful, tender,
playful, funny, humble, determined, resilient, forgiving, unwavering,
steadfast and loving. He led many people to know Jesus and discipled
countless others with gentle wisdom, sharing generously from his heart.
He remained convinced throughout his entire life that Jesus is the
answer to living a life full of purpose and served his Savior faithfully
in every area of life with honesty, humility, and integrity. He is
survived by his beloved wife Martha of nearly 50 years, his three
precious daughters: Heather Harbaugh of Arlington, TX; Meagan Brown of
Austin, TX; and Elizabeth Lindow of Denver, CO; his fantastic
sons-in-law Lee Harbaugh, Chase Brown, and Tim Lindow, his nine dearly
loved grandchildren Suzanne, Josh, Melinda, Kaden, Rachel and Emily
Harbaugh; and Elias, Merin, and Tessa Brown; his beautiful sisters
Eldena Friesen and Elizabeth Sherrill as well as many nieces, nephews,
and cousins. Viewing and service details are as follows: Viewing:
