OBITUARY

Bob Sewell (1936 - 2013)

Bob Sewell peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 3, 2013. Bob was born in Wink, Texas on February 19, 1936. He attended high school in Big Lake, Texas and enjoyed being a member of the marching band. Along with his love of music was his love of baseball which he shared with friends from his youth until his recent death. After high school graduation, Bob headed to Lubbock, Texas where he attended Texas Tech University with studies in Broadcast Communications. It was there he met his wife, Sandra Wilson, with whom he was married to for over 50 years. Bob's successful career in broadcasting took him from Brownfield, Texas, to Lubbock and Abilene as a weather forecaster and general manager of the local top radio stations, but the Lord had other plans for Bob. He moved his wife and two daughters back to Lubbock to become the head of Evangelism at St. Luke's United Methodist Church. Following his ministry in Lubbock, he was called into service as the full-time lay minister of Evangelism at First United Methodist Church in Carrollton, Texas. Bob was responsible for bringing Evangelism Explosion into focus - a program that wonderfully prepared the lay person to effectively share the gospel of Jesus Christ and give outreach to those in spiritual need. After many years of service at FUMC, Bob and Sandy started to feel the call of the Lord to start a ministry that would bring rest, reflection and renewal to pastors and their wives who were facing challenges and struggles within their churches and personal lives. Moving from Texas to beautiful Colorado made it evident that the Lord had laid out his plan and Bob and Sandy followed with faithful anticipation. SonScape Ministries, a non-denominational ministry, was formed and a beautiful teaching and ministry center built in the Woodland Park/Divide, Colorado area with the majestic Pike's Peak Mountains as the backdrop. For over 25 years Bob and Sandy shared their special gifts of love, support and encouragement to help bring back God's focus and plan for pastors to renew their call to ministry. Countless pastors will testify that if it had not been for SonScape Ministries, they would not be in ministry today. Bob would tell you that it is not because of anything he or Sandy did, but it was what they allowed God to do through them. SonScape has become a worldwide ministry with the original belief that we need to lift up, encourage and support our pastors and their families by giving back to them what they so unselfishly give to us. Bob retired from SonScape and moved back to the Dallas area to be close to family after Sandy was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and passed away in 2010. Bob started Living of Life Ministries and continued to counsel pastors and others who were in need of spiritual direction and renewal until his recent death. God had given him such a great love and compassion for those who were hurting and in need. Now he can rest and join Sandy in whatever wonderful service God has planned for them in heaven and throughout eternity. Bob is survived by two daughters, Chris Steinfath and husband Ronnie; Teri Nix and husband Doyle, brother in-law Carl Wilson and wife Vicki and three grandchildren, Eric Steinfath, Stephen Steinfath, Katie Spaeth and husband Jordan. A memorial service of celebration will be held in the Faith Chapel at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas on Friday, April 12, 2013 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please send a generous donation to SONSCAPE RETREATS, F/B/O BOB AND SANDY SEWELL MEMORIAL FUND, P. O. BOX 700, DIVIDE, COLORADO 80814.
