JAMES SHAFER MAKES ALL DISTRICT BACK
James Shafer, captain of the 1943 Carrollton Lions, was recently selected
as all-district back on the District 14A. All-District football team. Men are
chosen by the coaches in the district. Other members of this team have not been
publicly announced.
James showed up very well all season as the lion quarterback. he is a great head
general and ball handler. his ability to receive passes thrilled many fans
during the past season. He is a senior with tree letters for football.
Besides his participation as a member of the football team and as a captain,
James is acting captain of the basketball team, and he plans to play baseball
this spring.
An unusual honor was bestowed on Shafer a short time ago when the members of the
senior class chose him as the most popular boy.

ARTICLE
James Shafer Sells Sinclair Service Station
The Sinclair Service Station, on the old Denton Highway south of town,
operated the past several months by James Shafer, was sold Wednesday to H. M.
West of Dallas and C. A. Chaney of Farmers Branch.
Mr. Chaney had lived in Farmers Branch practically all his life, and will
continue to reside there. Mr. and rms. West plan to move to Carrollton as soon
as they can find housing accommodations.
Mr. West will operate the station for the most part, while Mr. Chaney will be
employed in Dallas.

ARTICLE
James Shafer, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Shafer, is now home after being
discharged from the Navy. He served 23 months and had undergone an operation in
the Naval Hospital in Norman, Oklahoma just before his release.
James is a graduate of Carrollton High School, where he was very active in
athletics and other school affairs.

OBITUARY
Obituary
for James Burton Shafer
Reverend James Burton Shafer was born August 8, 1926, in Celina, Texas,
to Charles Shafer and Oma Denison Shafer. He went to be with his Lord,
December 2, 2022, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 96 years.
James grew up and graduated from Carrollton, Texas. He served his
country honorably with the United States Navy. He worked for Ford Motor
Company until he retired. He later became a Baptist preacher in The
Cedar Creek Lake area in Texas.
Those he leaves behind who many cherished memories include:
His wife; Billie, of the home
Daughter; Janet Romin and husband Chris
Sister: Marjorie Lambert
Stepchildren: Karen Whitaker and husband Monte Marshall Collier
Great grandchildren; Stephanie Love and husband Keith
Great great grandchildren; Dakota and Dallas
Numerous other nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2022,
at Fellowship Baptist Church in Texas with nephew Tim Chapman and
Brother Rivera officiating.
Burial will be held 11:15 a.m. on December 20, 2022, at Dallas-Fort
Worth National Cemetery.
