OBITUARY

KATHY A. SHELTON

SHELTON, KATHY A., died on Tuesday, Dec. 24, in Plano due to complications from surgery. She was born on September 30, 1952 in Dallas to Leroy and Erma Etter Roberts. Kathy is survived by one son James Shelton and his fiance Tanya Wilhite, her parents, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many other loving friends, fellow teachers and students. She was preceded in death by one brother and sister-in-law David and Lori Roberts and two nieces Jenny and Melanie. Kathy was a special education teacher at Ted Polk Middle School in Carrollton and she was currently working on her Doctorate at the University of North Texas. Kathy received some very special awards for her accomplishments as a teacher. She was awarded the Association of Texas Professional Education Secondary Teacher of the Year for 2001-02, and she was also given the Council for Learning Disabilities Outstanding Teacher Award as well as being honored with the Marquis Who's Who of American Women. Among Kathy's many achievements she began with support and monies from the state, the "Using Your Noodle" and "Peer Tutoring" Programs at Ted Polk Middle School, and she co-authored "Building and Assessing Parent Involvement Through Technology," published in Reaching Today's Youth: The Community Circle of Caring Journal. She was a member of the Council for Exceptional Children and the Association of Texas Professional Educators. Kathy had a great love for travel, but her greatest love was to help those around her. She loved and was loved by her family and friends, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, Dec. 27, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 28, at 10 a.m. at the Northside Baptist Church in Carrollton. Interment will follow at Hilltop Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the CFB ISD Educational Foundation, In Memory of Kathy Shelton, PO Box 115186, Carrollton, TX 75011.
