OBITUARY

Lielani R. Shumaker
October 30, 1945 - February 4, 2023

Lielani Rae “Loni” Shumaker, age 77 of Pella, passed away February 4, 2023, with her family by her side.

Loni was born October 30, 1945, to Leola and Ray Wagner. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Symco. She was raised by Elwood and Rose (Grimm) Mitchell, her maternal grandparents, whom she loved very much.

Loni lived in Pella her entire childhood and had a special friendship with her neighbor boy Bill. In 1964 she moved with Bill and his family to Florida for a short time until they relocated to Texas. While in Texas she graduated from RL Turner High School and then worked for Texas Instruments.

Loni was united in marriage to Bill Shumaker on April 2, 1966. They moved back to Wisconsin when he got out of the Army and have remained here ever since.

Loni also worked for Sturms in Manawa, Marion Plywood and then for several taverns in the area as a barkeeper for many years. Loni and Bill also volunteered for the Pella EMS.

Loni enjoyed keeping her perennials and basket plants blooming beautifully throughout the summer. She also enjoyed time out with her friends and playing cards. She was quite the card shark but will be remembered most as the Cribbage Queen. But above all, time spent with family was most important to Loni. She was the Matriarch of the family and always made sure things were the way she wanted them. It was either Loni’s way or no way. She loved fiercely and was very protective of her children, especially her grandchildren.

Loni is survived by her husband of 56 years: Bill Shumaker; her sons: Brad (Barb), Dan (Nicke), Sean (Lisa); her grandchildren: Brian (Savanah), Taylor, Sara (Calvin), Kelsi (Austin), Gage, Kayla, Kendra; her first great-grandchild due in May; her sisters: Rochelle (John) Kaepernick, Tammy (Steve) Vignali; her brothers: Steve Dupuis, Todd Dupuis.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Leola and Ray Wagner, Elwood and Rose Mitchell; Uncle: Leon Mitchell; Aunt: Pat (Wilbert) Zillmer.

Prayer Service for Loni will be held on Sunday February 12th at 4:00 PM at Beil-Didier Home, Marion, with Pastor Lois Graper officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until time of service at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life to share memories and a private family burial will be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank Katie and Nola from Theda Care Hospice for their care and support as well as granddaughters Kelsi and Sara for their help with their grandmother during this difficult time.
