OBITUARY
Jeffery
Smallwood
04/19/1953 - 01/08/2022
Jeffrey Smallwood, age 68, passed away peacefully surrounded by his
family on January 8, 2022. Jeff was born in McKinney, TX on April 19,
1953 to Jack and Jane Smallwood. At the age of 10, he lost his father,
Jack, in an accident and was raised the remainder of his childhood by
his amazing mother. He attended high school at R.L. Turner in
Carrollton, TX, where he played football for Coach Kidwell with some of
his lifelong best friends as an R.L. Turner Lion of '71. Jeff fondly
remembered his football days throughout his life. Jeff married Lori
Andro on April 9, 1977. They were married 44 years, raised three
children, and enjoyed activities such as scuba diving and traveling.
Jeff worked as a police officer for the Dallas Police Department from
1972 to 1978 where he was a field training officer. He then joined the
Addison Fire Department in 1978 and retired in 2001 as the Captain of
"B" Shift. Jeff was dedicated to his profession of firefighting and
cared about the guys on his shift like family. After retirement, Jeff
became the best Grandad to his many granddaughters and grandson. He
could be found taking them on trips, setting up the pool and waterslide
for them, or working on projects with them in the shop. When not being
Grandad, Jeff was cruising the open road on his Harley Davidson, and
took many a fond trip with his friends. He loved to work with his hands
and there was not anything he could not build. Beyond that, there wasn't
a fish that Jeff could not catch, or at least that is what he told
everyone. In his later years, Jeff could routinely be found on a boat on
the lake, with his best friend Thomas, dropping a line and trying to
catch the big one. Which lake was his favorite? According to him it was
any lake that he was fishing on at the time.
He is survived by his wife, Lori Smallwood, son Joshua Smallwood,
daughter Melissa Smallwood, and daughter Shannon Rapert and son-in-law
Ronnie Rapert, Jr. as well as his sister and brother-in-law Jackie and
Paul Woody and nephews Wade and Russell Woody. He is also survived by
his grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye- Bailey, Shelby, and
Sydney Rapert, Ashlyn Smallwood, and Isabella, Sophia, and Liam
Olivares. Jeff is preceded in death by his father Jack Smallwood and his
mother Jane Kimberlin, whom he waited many years to see again. He is
also preceded in death by his grandfather and grandmother, David and
Ruby Mae Horn and his aunt and uncle Jim and Elvira Cummings.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Addison Fire
Station 1 on Sunday, February 6, 2022 at 10:00 am. Jeff was not big on
flowers, so in lieu of those, please make a donation in his name to the
National Fallen Firefighters Foundation or the American Heart
Association. Or take a few minutes to visit the lake, fish, and keep him
in your memory. |
