Valedictorian James Smart, son of Mr. and Mrs.
J. P. Smart of Farmers Branch, recently won Valedictory honors at Carrollton
High School. His average was 96.64. Finishing grade school at Farmers Branch,
Smart was Valedictorian of his Eight Grade class there. During his four years at
Carrollton, he has captained the school's football and basketball teams, edited
its newspaper, and served as a class officer each year. This year he was
president of the student body

OBITUARY
Jim Smart
Greenville
James H. (Jim) Smart, 79, passed away Friday night, October 11, 2013. A retired
history professor at Furman University and longtime member of First Baptist
Church, Greenville, he died with dignity at home, suffering little and
surrounded by love.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; his daughter Susan D'Amato and granddaughter
Alexis; his son Rusty and son-in-law C.F. Hawkins; and siblings in Texas and
Oklahoma.
The family will hold a small, private memorial service at a later date. In lieu
of visiting or flowers, they respectfully request donations in James' name be
made to Meals on Wheels, Triune Mercy Center, or the charity of one's choice .
