OBITUARY SMITH
GARLAND LEE, born in Rusk, Texas on the 26th day of September 1946, died from
cancer at his home on Wednesday, November 6, 2002. Garland worked in the
printing industry for 38 years. He was employed by Best Press of Addison,
Texas at the time of his disability. He loved his job and fellow coworkers.
Garland was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, and if he could be
remembered in some way it would be for the gift of time he gave coaching so many
kids at baseball, soccer and basketball. He changed and influenced the
lives of many. He enjoyed playing golf with his sons, and spending time with his
grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Judy; 3 children,
Richard, Chantal, Kathy, Chris, and Gary; 2 grandchildren, Katelyn and Cody.
Also survived by his mother and stepfather, Mildred and Doug Minor;
mother-in-law Jerry Sharp; half-sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Gene
Merrill; in-laws Mike and Sylvia Sharp, Jerry and Steve Tomack, numerous aunts,
nieces and nephews, his beloved church family and co-workers. Garland was
preceded in death by his father Travis Smith and father-in-law Leonard (Pete)
Sharp. The family would like to express their sincerest thank you to his
surgeon. Dr. Robert Preskitt, Baylor Hospital and nursing staff, and Heartland
hospice facility and staff for their loving care and concern. The family will
also receive friends and family on Thursday, November 7th from 6-8 pm at Rhoton
Funeral Home for visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that
donations be made to Make a Wish Foundation, 5005 LBJ Frwy., Suite 410, Dallas,
TX 75244. The service will be held at the Carrollton Church of the Nazarene on
Friday, November 8, 2002 at 12:00 pm 1529 E. Hebron Parkway, where he was a
member. The procession will end at the Hilltop
Memorial Park for the memorial.
