J.B. Smith, 83, of Denton passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at his residence. He was born July 4, 1929 in Farmers Branch to Omar K. and Alsa Modesta Jackson Smith.

J.B. was a member of the Farmers Branch Volunteer Fire Department and then graduated from Simmons Fire College in Dallas, TX. He retired from the Dallas Fire Department as a Dallas Fire and Rescue officer after 26 years of service.

He was a member the Stanfield Lodge #217 in Denton, and was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason in Dallas.

He is survived by his wife, Herta of Denton. He married Herta Schroder Haskins in Pilot Point.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 1, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Denton. Burial will follow at Cooper Creek Cemetery.
