OBITUARY
James E. Smith, 50, 2635 Richland, Farmers Branch, was killed while picking
up metal debris on Stemmons Expressway at Commonwealth Monday, January 4.
It was reported that Smith who was a State Highway Department employee, got out
of the truck to pick up the debris. He slipped and fell. The department
truck over him with the right rear wheel. The accident occurred about 8:35 a.m.
and he died on the operating table shortly after 2 that afternoon.
He is survived by wife, Mrs. Syble Louise Smith; son, Eddie Smith; daughters,
Patsy Louise, Irvin; Virginia Lee Banks, Sandra jean Sullivan, all of Farmers
Branch; fargarie Lucille Tefftell, Jefferson; brother, William Smith, Fort
Worth; Charlie L. Smith; sister, Minnie Jones, Both of New Boston; nine
grandchildren. Services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Rhoton, Weiland-Merritt
Funeral Chapel with Rev. J. B. Allen and Rev. Joseph Crane officiating.
Interment was in Hilltop Cemetery,
Carrollton. Pallbearers were Finis W. Rich, Millard J. Cline, Herbert E. Sams,
Charles H. Robinson, A.Y. Norman and Dudley L. Adair.
