OBITUARY
NEAL SMITH PASSED AWAY AT EL PASO SUNDAY Neal Smith passed away
at the Homan Sanitarium at El Paso Sunday afternoon and his remains were brought
to Carrollton Tuesday morning for burial. The funeral services were
conducted at the Union Baptist Church at 3 o'clock by Rev. W. E. Anderson in a
very impressive service. Burial was made by the side of his father in the
Union Cemetery. Neal was
born Dec. 19th, 1900, near Carrollton and attended the Carrollton school and
grew to manhood in our midst. At school and at social gatherings he was a
favorite with his friends. He took an interest in church and Sunday School work
and led a clean moral life as an example for his friends to pattern after. His
health was never very good and about a year and a half ago he entered the Homan
Sanitarium to try to improve his health. For some time he improved steadily and
his loved ones were hopeful that he would continue but on Wednesday, July 8th,
he made a sudden change for the worse and word was sent to his mother and
brother to come at once if they wished to see him again before he crossed the
Great Divide. He lived to bid them good-bye and to smile at them and tell that
he had heard the call and that his soul was ready to answerer it and that
everything was right between him and his God. Rev. Anderson assisted by
Rev. E. L. Jones, conducted a beautiful service, bringing out the wonderful hope
that awaited the loved ones on the other side. Music, appropriate for the
occasion, was rendered by the Carrollton mixed chorus. The church could not
begin to hold those who came to pay tribute to his memory and more were on the
outside than were able to be seated. Eight flower girls dressed in
white entered the church before the casket, heavy laden with flowers, that were
sent by friends and loved ones to pay their last respects. Pallbearers were
young men, personal friends of Neal, who were glad to be able to render this
service to their departed friend. A heart broken mother, A. J. Smith,
one brother, Bill Smith, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Neal Smith, and many
other relatives and friends are left to mourn his passing. Those
attended the funeral from out of town were: Elmer, Willie, and Flem Elmore, Mr.
and Mrs. Bert Gibson of Sherman, Mrs. Lillie Spenser and Mrs. J. O. Burnett of
Decatur, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Jackson, Frank Jackson and son Ben, Mr. and Mrs.
Dell James, Miss Connie Hardcastle, Mr. and Mrs. Leland Perry, Mrs. George
Peters, and Mrs. Emma Lee Treese of Dallas, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Cox of Arlington.
