OBITUARY
William
"Billy" Henry Smith
April 6, 1954 - March 28, 2021
William “Billy” Henry Smith III went to the Lord to join many loved ones
on March 28th, 2021 where he passed peacefully with his wife and sons at
his side. Billy was born to the late William H. Smith II and Roberta
Smith on April 6, 1954 in Danbury, Virginia.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Mabe Smith of Tucson,
Arizona, along with his grandson Coleman Tutrow of Coppell, Texas.
Billy joined the U.S. Navy, only to be Medically Discharged soon after
completing basic training. He was Honorably Discharged, He traveled back
to South Carolina where he spent his childhood years; enrolled at
Clemson University where he had the privilege to play basketball for two
years. Billy completed his education at Southern Methodist University.
Billy was blessed with a large and loving family through marriage. He
married Debbie of Carrollton, Texas on June 1, 1980. They raised two
sons, Jason and Cody with a great sense of pride, love and passion for
their lives. He was always excited to experience all that life had to
offer to his wife and sons. Coaching his sons from childhood to middle
school in football, baseball, and basketball was the joy of his life.
Billy looked forward to planning and taking his family along with anyone
he could convince to go to Disney World. He traveled to thirty-two
states in his lifetime, but his favorite place to be was home.
Billy was an educator at heart, loved to talk sports, have family
gatherings at his home, and attend family reunions. Golf was his game
and SMU was his collegiate love! He lived in Virginia, South Carolina,
New York, Lima, Peru, Arizona, and Lewisville, Copper Canyon, Dallas,
and Coppell, Texas.
Self-employed for over thirty years as a general contractor, his
profession was far-reaching in the commercial field from Florida to
Arizona, and as far north as the New England States, but he enjoyed a
successful career mostly right here in Texas with his two sons.
He will be dearly missed by all that loved him. Billy is survived by his
wife, Debbie D. Smith, of more than 40 years. Billy’s love for Debbie
was on display and apparent to all that spoke to him about his ‘better
half’! He loved her so.
Billy is survived by his sons, William Cody and Gerald Jason; his
daughter-in-law, Alyxis Ortiz-Smith; his grand-children, Haleigh
Michelle Tutrow, Jason Avery Tutrow, Jaxson Smith and Victoria Smith.
