BIOGRAPHY
Superintendent
Dallas County Schools Board of Trustees appointed Rick Sorrells as its
10th Superintendent in 2003. Rick Sorrells has lived in the Dallas area
his entire life and attended school in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch
ISD. After graduating from R.L. Turner High School, he attended North
Texas State University where he received his B. A. degree. In 1993 he
received his Masters in Business Administration from the University of
Dallas and continued his education receiving his teacher certification
from the University of Dallas. He completed the requirement for his
Doctorate at Seton Hall University in January 2009.
Mr. Sorrells spent over 20 years in mid level and executive positions
with Southwestern Bell. He has been actively involved in the community
through the Governor's appointment on the State Board of Podiatry
Examiners, Board of Directors of the Greater East Dallas Chamber of
Commerce, multiple civic activities, and numerous political
organizations. Rick was the 2008 Chairman of the Greater East Dallas
Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Sorrells is also busy with family activities. He is the father of
four children: Ryan a law school student at Texas Wesleyan, David a
recent graduate of the University of Texas at Dallas, and twins Meredith
and Michael, who are in the ninth grade this school year. His wife
Margaret is a teacher for the Dallas Independent School district.
