OBITUARY
After struggling for years with various extended illnesses and their
complications, Rusty (Troy Garth) Spears died on November 11, 2019, at
the age of 60. He was born in Andrews, Texas on July 25, 1959. The third
of four children, Rusty spent his childhood years in Midland, Texas, but
was a proud 1977 graduate of R.L. Turner High School (Carrollton, Texas)
and later attended and graduated from the University of North Texas —
and he was a Mean Green Eagle through and through.
Rusty is survived by many longstanding and devoted friends. In addition,
Rusty was the father to three beautiful and successful daughters: Sara
and her husband (Casey), Abby, Emily and her husband (Jimmy) and three
grandchildren. Rusty is also survived by his father, Joseph Fred Spears
of Katy, his brother (Berry) and his wife (Laura) of Austin, his sister
(Pam) and her partner (Sheryl) of McKinney and step-sister (Priscilla)
and her husband (Joe) of Sugar Land, step-sister (Veronica) and her
husband (Michael), step-daughter (Amanda), his beloved Aunt Ellen of Red
Oak and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and
friends. He was pre-deceased by his infant son (John Austin), his mother
(Vianna Kay), his brother (John) and maternal and paternal grandparents.
The family also gratefully acknowledges the care, attention and support
provided to Rusty in the final months of his life by his friend and care
giver, Dexter Jernigan.
Rusty never met a stranger, and he miraculously always seemed to have
the right joke, even if it was at the wrong time. Whether on the golf
course or in a sales meeting, Rusty’s big personality always seemed to
assume control. Throughout his life, he loved and relied upon a wide
circle of friends and they reciprocated with affection for him. He will
be missed.
A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, November
15, 2019, at McKinney Bible Church, 501 S. Graves, McKinney, Texas, at
1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, Rusty requested that memorials or contributions be
made in his memory to (i) the G. Brint Ryan College of Business Dean’s
Excellence Fund, University of North Texas, 1155 Union Circle, #311250,
Denton, Texas, 76203; (ii) the Alzheimer’s Association; or (iii) the
charity of your choice. |
