OBITUARY

In Memory of
Mary Teresa Spencer
December 7, 1949 - February 21, 2017

Mary Teresa Rogers Spencer of Carrollton, TX, entered heaven on February 21, 2017.

Teri was born in Philadelphia, PA, on December 7, 1949, the daughter of John and Ann Rogers, sister to Barbara, Kim, and John, and aunt to her nine nieces and nephews, who thought of her as their second mom. She loved her seven grand nieces and nephews. She never missed the opportunity to celebrate birthdays or holidays with her family.

In 1997, Teri met the love of her life, David Spencer. They were married on October 21, 2000, and enjoyed sixteen wonderful years of marriage.
Teri spent her childhood in Hatboro, PA, attending St. David's Elementary School. She graduated from Bishop McDevitt High School and went on to graduate from Gwynedd Mercy College in 1982. She received her Masters at Gratz College in Philadelphia.

Teri was an exceptional educator. She began as an elementary teacher at St. Veronica's in Philadelphia. She moved to Assumption BVM in Feasterville, PA, where she enjoyed teaching for over 20 years. She transferred to Theodore Roosevelt in Philadelphia, PA. In 1999, Teri moved to Texas to teach at Ted Polk Middle School. Not only did Teri make her mark as an excellent math teacher, but she was often the first one to welcome a new teacher and made sure they became a part of the Polk Family.

Even though she retired after thirteen years at Polk, Teri continued her career as a tutor for students who were having difficulty in math at McWhorter, Rainwater, and Long schools. Teri would use many different teaching methods and math tricks with her students until she found one that would help them succeed in math.

Teri had so many wonderful qualities. She was a whiz at math and shared her expertise as a presenter at the National Math Conference for several years.

Beyond teaching the standard subjects in school, Teri inspired her students to be the best that they could be. She was especially helpful to those students who were in need of a friend. She reached out to some of the more difficult students and found a way to make a positive impact.

Before moving to Texas, Teri spent her summers in Wildwood, NJ. She enjoyed working at the movie theatres and the Admiral Motel. Teri loved being with her family, her seashore neighbors, and co-workers. She was the life of the party.

Teri was truly a dog lover. Buddy, Trotter and Major, her childhood pet, are all in heaven with her. Missy Lou, her sweet girl, misses her.

Teri had an outstanding memory. When listening to music from the 50's, 60's and 70's, she could tell you the name of every singer, the song title, and all the words. She was great at playing games: Quick Scrabble, Crazy Eights, Pinochle, and too many others to mention. Not surprisingly, she usually won the game.

Teri was an amazing baker! She made the most beautiful and delicious cakes for every celebration. Everyone loved when she made homemade chocolate candy, and she never missed making Irish Potatoes for St. Patrick's Day. Teri loved pink! Every one of her electronics, down to the charger cord, were pink.

Teri had the unique talent to make everyone feel special. She was always there to do whatever needed to be done for anyone in need. Her most endearing quality was making everyone laugh. She was so quick-witted! When you think of Teri, you just have to smile.

Teri was one of a kind, had a heart of gold, and we are all blessed that she touched our lives. She made the world a better place. Heaven will be more fun now that Teri is there!
