BIOGRAPHY Albert Stanley, a Confederate soldier, was born in
Howard County Missouri about 1840. He came to Texas with his parents, Ramey and
Lucinda (Amick) Stanley in 1852. In 1861, he enlisted in Captain Witt's Company,
Colonel Darnell's Regiment. He served in Arkansas and one year and three years
in Louisiana.
Some of the battles he took part in were Prairie Grove, Pleasant Hill,
Mansfield, and Milliken's Bend. He served as a private until the time of
surrender and his discharge in Houston in 1865.
After the war, Albert took up farming in Dallas County. In 1867 he married
Cassie Riggs, a daughter of Stephen R9iggs of Denton County. They had three
children, Charles, Susan and Lucinda. Charles and Lucinda died young. Susan
married Walter Ward of Alabama. Susan and Walter Ward had seven children:
Charles, Belle (Colwell), Cora (Knight), Stanley, Pearl, Alvin, and Loyd. Albert
lost his first wife by death, and in 1877 he married Susan Caroline Grace, widow
of Squire Grace of Denton County. THey did not have children but adopted Cambo
Crawford and Isaac Thomas. Albert Stanley is buried at
Keenan Cemetery in
Farmers Branch.
(There are two Albert Stanley graves at Keenan Cemetery. One reads: "Born May
10, 1835, Died May 31, 1907". The second marker reads: "Born June 2, 1838, Died
February 13, 1909", and at the bottom of the marker, "Erected by Sudie Ward" |
