OBITUARY

Louis Staub, 90, Dies At Home in Hutchins

Louis Staub, 90, former Federal soldier and resident o the Farmers Branch community fifty-eight years ago, died Friday morning at Hutchins, Dallas County.
Mr. Staub was born Aug. 15, 1840 at Kilsberry, Switzerland, and two months after he landed in New York in 182 he enlisted in the Thirty-Fifth New Jersey Regiment for Federal service. After the Civil War he worked in a lumber mill at Remington, N. C. and came to Texas in 1872. He was actively engaged in farming at Farmers Branch for thirty-six years. With four yoke of oxen he broke and helped to fence the prairie on the Marion Johnston homestead near Midway which was a part of the original townsite of Farmers Branch. He hauled lumber by ox team from Jefferson to Dallas and frontier outposts in the early days. He later moved to Oklahoma, where he farmed. He returned to Dallas County about a year ago.
Funeral services and burial will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday at Farmers Branch Cemetery. Mr. Staub is survived by no immediate relatives.

County Pioneer Dies

Funeral services for Louis Staub, 90, pioneer resident of Farmers Branch community, who died at Hutchins, were held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Farmers Branch cemetery. Mr. Staub, a native of Kilsberry, Switzerland, served with the Federal forces during the Civil War, having joined the 35th New Jersey Regiment two mouths after he landed in New York in 1862.
He came to Texas in 1872 and was a resident of the Farmers Branch community fifty-eight years ago. He was actively engaged in farming in that community for many years. He and Marion Johnston hauled lumber by ox team from Jefferson to Dallas and frontier outposts in early days. With four yoke of oxen he broke and helped to fence the prairie on the Marion Johnston homestead near Midway which was a part of the original site of Farmers Branch. Here he operated a gin for Mr. Johnston in the seventies.
Mr. Staub later moved to Oklahoma where he farmed He returned to Dallas county about two years ago. He is survived by mo immediate relatives.
