Northeast Dallas

Man, woman shot

dead in parking lot

A man and a woman were shot to death late Friday in the parking lot of a far northeast Dallas apartment complex, police said.

Chenoa Stauffer, 29, of Dallas was found dead inside a vehicle in the 15500 block of Leisure Drive, near Skillman Street and Forest Lane. She had been shot repeatedly.

Officers who responded to the shooting about 11:15 p.m. found a second victim nearby, 31-year-old Jeremiah Deshawn Royal of Dallas. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A detective said that Royal approached a man sitting near a stairwell when he was shot. Then the gunman walked toward the vehicle and shot Stauffer.

Police were seeking witnesses who might be able to provide them with a motive for the slayings.

"We're just starting to put it together," Dallas police homicide Sgt. Ray Beaudreault said.

Police did not have any suspects late Saturday.
