OBITUARY
 
Geneva Stayton

Geneva Stayton of Pilot Point passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2011 in McKinney, Texas at the age of 87. She was born January 15, 1924 to Elbert and Ollie Hurst Grimes in the Willow Springs Community located in Denton County. She was a high school graduate. She married Oscar Slayton who preceded her in death. Her work history included employment as a keypunch data entry operator for Blue Cross & Blue Shield for several years. After her retirement she and her husband, Oscar, moved to Cisco where they along with their dogs enjoyed country living.

Geneva was always active and enjoyed working with her hands and was skilled in knitting, crochet, and making hand quilts.

Geneva was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Pilot Point and was active in the Martha Sunday School Class, a member of Road Runners, a member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Senior Exercise Class.

She is survived by her sister, Alyce Simmons of Pilot Point, nephews Jerry Simmons and Lonnie Simmons and niece Kathy Hill. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Oscar, a daughter, Virginia Ann Stayton, sister, Leona Sonntag, and brother, George Grimes.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at Furneaux Cemetery in Carrollton, TX. Visitation will be Monday, June 13, 2011 starting at 7:00 P.M. at Huff / Slay Funeral Home in Pilot Point. The family request in lieu of flowers donations be made honoring Geneva to Pilot Point Animal Shelter or Calvary Baptist Church in Pilot Point.
