Katie B. Stigler
January 27, 1934 - January 23, 2024Katie Beth Vinson Stigler
passed away peacefully on January 23, 2024 at her home in Southlake,
Texas at the age of 89. Katie was born on January 27, 1934 in Dallas,
TX, the only child of Helen Sweeney and Jake Vinson. She grew up in
Carrollton, Texas where she lived with her mother and stepfather Stanley
Duncan. She was a 1951 graduate of Carrollton High School. Katie
obtained both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Texas Woman's
University in Denton, TX. She married Bobby Jack (BJ) Stigler on May 30,
1951, and they enjoyed 72 years together. They moved to North Richland
Hills Texas in 1960 and resided there for 60 years before relocating to
Southlake, TX. Katie was an accomplished pianist and organist. While her
children were in school, she taught piano lessons in her home and played
the organ for services at Davis Memorial Methodist Church. In 1977,
Katie began her career as a public school educator, teaching first grade
at Smithfield Elementary and Foster Village Elementary in the Birdville
Independent School district . After retiring in 1994, she and BJ
traveled extensively throughout Europe and the Caribbean. They also
owned a condominium in Port Aransas where they shared many happy moments
with their children and grandchildren. Katie is survived by her husband
BJ Stigler of Southlake, daughter Kathryn Johnson and her husband Randy
Johnson of Haslet , daughter Debra Fernandez of Northlake, 5
grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. Katie was preceded In death by
her son David Stigler in 1995. Visitation will be held from 12-1 on
Wednesday, January 31 at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park and Funeral Home
in Colleyville, TX.
