Rites today for Dallas teacher Allen Stockslager

Services for Allen Stockslager , a Dallas teacher, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rhoton Funeral Home in Carrollton. Burial will follow at Furneaux Cemetery in Carrollton.

Mr. Stockslager, 54, died of a heart attack Sunday at his Carrollton home.

He taught history at Adamson High School this fall and had been an English and history teacher at Holmes Middle School, South Oak Cliff High School and the Business and Management Center magnet high school since 1985.

Mr. Stockslager loved literature and history, said his wife, Susan. "I never liked that in school, but he would read history books for fun."

Mr. Stockslager taught from 1967 to 1969 in LaMarque, Texas, then worked for a bank in Seattle for a time. He returned to North Texas in 1982 and taught at Pottsboro and Lone Oak before moving to Dallas.

On weekends, he ran a stamp and sports trading card booth at the Lone Star Bazaar, an indoor flea market in Garland.

In addition to his wife, survivors include son Thomas Stockslager of Carrollton; daughter Sally Stockslager of Carrollton; mother Dorothy Stockslager of Sherman; and brothers David Stockslager of Terrell and Thomas Stockslager and Michael Stockslager, both of Sherman.
