Leonard Charles Thacker

Following a lengthy battle with cancer, Charles left for his new heavenly home on January 16, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Julia Steele Thacker, son Andrew Thacker and wife Melissa, daughter Marcie Roberts and husband Jason, daughter Kimberly Sorenson and husband Mark, seven beautiful grandchildren, and sister: LaVerne Beougher. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Susie Thacker; two brothers: Junior and Delmer Thacker and one sister: Thelma Sue Thacker Rogers. He is also survived by many other loving relatives and friends. Charles was born August 16, 1935, in Granite, Oklahoma. He lived in Granite until going to Searcy, Arkansas to attend Harding College where he earned a Bachelor's in Education. He continued his education and obtained a Masters in Teaching from Harding and a Doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Texas. Charles spent his early life years in the field of education as a coach, teacher, and administrator, initiating many long-lasting programs, serving in several locations. His longest tenure was in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD. After retirement he enjoyed many activities and was able to turn his passion (some say "addiction") of buying/ selling cars into his next profession and ministry. He served many in the ministry of car-buying. Charles' love of life was serving the Lord – in many capacities. He served the Webb Chapel Church of Christ as an elder for 17 years, caring for the Lord's flock. He had a passion for missions to Central and South America and Mexico and the PT Cruzers ministry, among others. The Cruzers enjoyed many experiences and trips with Charles as leader and "cruise director". Charles was a brother, husband, father, grandfather, educator, friend, joke-teller, and so much more. He would want to be remembered most as a man who strove to be a disciple of Christ and servant of God. He will be missed. Interment will be in Granite, Oklahoma.
