OBITUARY
Thompson,
Conrad Neely June 25, 1952 - January 1, 2013 A unique, one-of-a-kind
individual and free spirit, Conrad never followed in anyone else's
footsteps, but chose instead to explore his own path in life. By doing
so he showed us all that its okay to be different. He was a gifted
artist, an avid astronomer, and an audiophile extraordinaire, with an
encyclopedic knowledge of all recorded music from the late 50s to the
present day. His imagination and curiosity knew no bounds, and there
were very few subjects that he didn't find fascinating. He especially
loved Spaghetti Westerns, going kayaking, and making customized CDs for
his friends. Conrad was probably one of the last people in America who
wasn't downloading music illegally off the internet. Having amassed a
vast library of several thousand albums, 45s, and CDs, he didn't need
to. He enjoyed making people laugh, and whenever his humor became too
coarse, as it frequently did, he attributed it to the Peckinpaugh side
of the family. Born June 25, 1952 in Bangor, Maine to Tom L. and Nola P.
Thompson, he was always looked up to and admired by his three younger
brothers. Not only because he was the oldest and the smartest, but
because he was a foot taller than everyone else his age. Maintaining a
lifelong fascination with rockets and space exploration, he knew the
details of every one of NASA's Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo Missions
better than most people knew their own neighborhoods. After graduating
from R.L. Turner High School in 1970, he attended various college
courses before going to work in the collection industry. He later became
a licensed insurance adjustor and spent the last thirty years working as
a subrogation adjustor. Preceded in death by his father just one month
ago, he is survived by his mother Nola, brothers Mark, Tommy, and Bill,
sister Marilyn, sister-in-law Debbie Thompson and brother-in-law Arlan
Converse, nephews Stuart, Daniel, Tommy, Mason, Erik, and Brian, niece
Madison, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins in and around Muncie,
Indiana. When the end came as a result of respiratory failure brought on
by pneumonia, Conrad was surrounded by his family and by his close
friends Franco, Byron, and T-Bone. His final thoughts concerned a
camping trip that he had planned for June 28th in Palo Duro Canyon,
where his ashes will be spread accordingly. Conrad made a lasting
impression on everyone he met. In keeping with his wishes, his family
and friends wish to celebrate his life with a memorial service at the
Bahama Beach Club on Saturday January 5, 2013 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
The club is located at 5961 Marina Drive, Garland TX 75043, and can be
reached at 972-226-5955. Read some of the snooty reviews on
Citysearch.com and you will understand why Conrad loved this place so
much. |

It is with great sadness that I must announce
the passing of my oldest brother Conrad. He died
today at the age of 60, less than one month
after the passing of our father. We had no idea
he was so sick. He went quickly from respiratory
failure due to complications from newly
discovered stage 3 lung cancer. Conrad went
peacefully with family & friends by his side. He
was most definitely a one of a kind individual
and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
May you rest in peace my beloved brother.
