Rites held for ex-News employee Earl Tibbetts
Services were Monday in Carrollton for former Dallas Morning News employee Earl
Wayne Tibbetts.
Mr. Tibbetts, 56, died Thursday of liver disease at Hermann Hospital in Houston,
where he had been hospitalized since March 7. He was buried in
Furneaux Cemetery in
Carrollton.
Mr. Tibbetts, who was awaiting a liver transplant, had been hospitalized 12
times in the last year, said his wife, Kay Tibbetts of Victoria, Texas. She
plans to work for organ donor education when she returns to Victoria.
"There's so little known about liver disease, the treatment and transplants,"
she said. "If there were more donors, this wouldn't have to happen."
Mr. Tibbetts was born in Dallas, where he attended Crozier Tech High School.
In 1965, he went to work in the distribution department of The News , his wife
said. Mr. Tibbetts left the paper in 1969 but returned in 1970. After a total of
13 years at The News , he left the newspaper to become a supervisor in the
distribution center at the Dallas Times Herald.
When the Times Herald stopped publishing in 1991, Mr. Tibbetts joined the
Victoria Advocate , where he was a mail room supervisor. He had been on medical
leave since July but worked occasionally until Oct. 1.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Tibbetts is survived by a son, Tony Tibbetts of
Carrollton; five daughters, Pam Reedy of Lincolnton, N.C., Natilee Hall of
Durant, Okla., Marsha Johnson of Spring, Texas, Sallie Bailey of Granbury,
Texas, and Mary Tibbetts of Victoria; his mother, Mary Goodman of Grapevine; a
sister, Ernestine McClure of Carrollton; and 14 grandchildren.
The Texas flag in front of The Dallas Morning News will fly at half staff on
Tuesday in memory of Earl Wayne Tibbetts.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Rhoton Funeral Home Chapel in
Carrollton, Texas, for Earl Wayne Tibbetts, 56, of Victoria, Texas. The Rev.
David Snell officiated.
Mr. Tibbitts was born Nov. 17, 1942, in Dallas, Texas.
He was employed by The Dallas Morning News for 13 years, The Dallas Times Herald
13 years and for the last 6 1/2 years he has worked at The Victoria Advocate.
He was preceded in death by his father Ernest W. Tibbetts and daughter
Charlene Tibbetts.
Burial was in
Furneaux Cemetery in Carrollton under the direction of Rhoton
Funeral Home in Carrollton.
