OBITUARY
Betty
Toews
1931-2024
Betty Davis Toews, affectionately known as Tweety, passed away on
September 11, 2024, in Plano, Texas at the age of 92. Betty was born on
December 7, 1931, to Sam William Davis and Maude Norris Davis in Dallas,
Texas. The family later moved to Carrollton, Texas, where she remained a
resident for 47 years. She graduated from Carrollton High School in 1949
with honors. After graduating, Betty began working at Southwestern Bell
Telephone Company (now AT&T). where she steadily rose to the position of
executive secretary. In her 40 years with the company, she witnessed it
become the well-known AT&T company and was a life member of the AT&T
Telecom Pioneers. She met her husband, Ike Kelvin Toews, and the two
married on August 29, 1981. They were married for 20 years before Ike's
passing in 2002. Betty was an active member of the First Baptist Church
of Farmers Branch since 1950 and enjoyed teaching Sunday School classes
for 28 years. Betty enjoyed helping and serving others and was actively
involved in several civic organizations. She was a lifetime member of
the American Business Women's Association and participated in the
Christian Women's Connection of North Dallas. Upon retirement she
enjoyed serving others through the Meals on Wheels program. To many,
Betty was known to have a generous heart and would often contribute to
many charitable causes. Betty is preceded in passing by her husband, Ike
Toews, brother, Calvin Davis, father, Sam Davis, mother, Maude
Davis-Bryant, and stepfather, Walter Bryant. Betty is survived by very
special friends Wanda Patterson and William Culpepper and their
families. She is also survived by her niece, Sammie Jo Perry, and two
cousins, Betty Ann Housewright and Nina Ivey. Betty was a special woman
who had a positive impact on many lives, as evidenced by the many
personal connections she kept active over the years through letters and
phone calls. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. A visitation
for Betty will begin on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 from 10:00 am to
11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Farmers Branch. The Funeral Service
will commence at 11:00 am at the church followed by a committal service
at Furneaux Cemetery at 12:30 pm. In lieu of flowers we ask that Betty's
charitable personality be honored by donating to St. Jude Children's
Research Hospital or First Baptist Church of Farmers Branch.
