Wayne D. Townley Serving on Destroyer
JAPAN (PHTNC) (Spl.) - Wayne D. Townley, gunner's mate third class, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Townley of Rt. 1 Box 116, Carrollton, and husband of Mrs. Dorothy M. Townley of 2522 Royal Lane, Dallas, is serving aboard the destroyer USS Bradford, which was a recent visitor to Kure.
During World War II, the Japanese battleship "Nagato" was build here.
Kure, top secret, Japanese base during World War II, then virtually unknown to the Western Powers, is now headquarters of the British Commonwealth Forces in Japan.
The crew was afforded opportunity to visit noted temples, and vast underground wartime machine shops.
