OBITUARY
Rites set for ex-teacher Maurine Turner
Services for Maurine Turner, a retired teacher with the Carrollton
-Farmers Branch Independent School District, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at
First United Methodist Church in Carrollton .
Mrs. Turner, 82, died of a heart attack at her Carrollton home Friday.
The Shamrock, Texas, native taught for more than 40 years. She spent most of her
career in Carrollton teaching the fifth through the eighth grades at
Carrollton Elementary.
Her last years with the school system were spent working as a curriculum
supervisor, said her son, John C. Turner.
Mrs. Turner also taught in the Duncanville, Garland and Highland Park school
districts. She moved to Carrollton in 1948 after she married
Robert L. Turner Sr., who later became
superintendent of the Carrollton -Farmers Branch school district.
Mr. Turner, the namesake of R. L.
Turner High School in Carrollton , died in 1962.
Mrs. Turner was a lifelong member of the Business & Professional Women's Club,
and she was a charter member and past president of the group's Carrollton
chapter.
Other survivors include two sons, Robert L. Turner Jr. of Garland and Thomas J.
Turner of Richardson; a brother, W.M. Jackson of Denton; and a sister, Doris
Pearce of Dallas.
