James E. Upfield

Upfield, James E. James E Upfield, age 90, of Farmers Branch, Texas, born 6/21/1920 in Van Wert, Iowa to Edith & Carl Upfield and passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2011. He graduated from high school in Van Wert, Iowa. During World War II he served in the US Army. Jim married Romona Rolfson on October 2, 1955 in California. . He was preceded in death by his parents, Edith & Carl Upfield and daughter Jill Upfield Thompson. He was survived by his wife, Romona Upfield, Children, Craig Upfield of Washington State, Connie Berman of California, Scott Upfield of Carrollton and Kimberly Upfield of Farmers Branch, 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchild, and sister, Betty, of Des Moines, Iowa. In 1956, after moving to Farmers Branch, Texas he founded and was president of Baifield Industries; which was for a period of time the largest employer in Carrollton . In 1959 Jim was a founder of Central Bank and Trust, the first bank in Farmers Branch. Jim was the president of Temtex Industries, President of Carrollton Chamber of Commerce, Served on the Farmers Branch City Council, represented the City of Farmers Branch on hospital board for RHD Hospital. He provided community service with the US Postal Service through the Vanguard Program. He was on the board of DOCA, Defense Organization Civilian Association. He was also President of the Dallas Gun Club and President of the Dallas Woods and Water Club. He owned and operated Meridian Creek Ranch in Bosque County. President of Texas Polled Hereford Association and on the Board of Directors of American Polled Hereford Association. Jim was an avid bird hunter. He participated and organized hunting trips in Texas and all over the world. On his most recent trip to Argentina this past September he demonstrated his sharp shooting skills. He enjoyed fishing at his ranch with his children and grandchildren. Charitable donations may be made in James' honor at the Frontiers of Flight Museum (6911 Lemmon Ave, Dallas, Texas 75209 /www.flightmuseum.com /214-340-3600). A memorial service will be held Monday, February 21 at 2 pm at Farmers Branch Church of Christ, 3035 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234. At a later date there will be a burial service at the Old Rock Church in Cranfills Gap, Texas.
