OBITUARY

Mrs. Bettie Ruth Washburn, age 74, passed away in the presence of her loved ones at Presbyterian of Plano on Tuesday, April 18, 2023.

Bettie was born on August 23, 1948, in Simms, Texas to William and Murnie Johnson and lived in New Boston, Texas till moving to Carrollton, Texas in her adolescence. She graduated from R.L. Turner High School in 1967. She met the love of her life, Randell L. Washburn, at Webb Chapel Baptist Church, and were married on April 13, 1974, which she says was “the best day of her life”. Together they had 3 children; Belinda (stillbirth), Joshua (46), Yvonne (45).

Mrs. Bettie was a loving wife, mother and caregiver to all. She first worked in a warehouse upon high school graduation, but then moved into working at the church daycare. Then started her own at home daycare when her children were still young. Later she went on to become a customer service representative for NSK and then Hunter Douglas where she retired.

She was a member of Prestonwood Baptist Church, and loved every minute of being in the women’s bible study, the Rebuilders class, Platinum Singers, and the Prestonwood Choir. Bettie loved to sing and for over 45 years she sang in church choirs. Singing praises to God, surrounded by fellow believers in Christ, was her favorite thing to do. She also loved to knit, read, and spend time with her grandchildren. Her love of travel knew no bounds. She had the opportunity to visit The Holy Land and Hawaii. She took cruises to Alaska and another to the Caribbean. Her favorite vacations were with her family to Florida and Montana where she made so many memories.

Mrs. Bettie was truly a wonderful, loving mother and granny, and always remained fiercely devoted to her family and church. She was the most loving person you would ever meet. She loved everyone and welcomed you with an open heart. She will be terribly missed by those who survive her: her husband, Randell, her children Josh (Melissa), Yvonne (Matt), and her 6 grandchildren, Ashley, Alyssa, Hudson, Evan, Ema, and Zoey, as well as many other extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents William and Murnie Johnson, her twin sister Billie Mitchell and her husband Kenneth, and her first child Belinda Elaine.
