OBITUARY
Death of W. T. Webb Removes Early Citizen
In the death of W. T. Webb, 89 years old, at the home of his son, Tom W. Webb
of Rockwall, on Sunday last, Dallas county sustained the loss of one of the
early citizens.
Mr. Webb who was born in 1836, the year Texas achieved independence from Mexico,
moved to Dallas County in 1850 while still a boy in company with his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. I. W. (sic) Webb. The family
settled at Farmers branch and established one of the first Methodist church in
North Texas, Webb's Chapel, which is still existent.
Throughout his long life, Mr. Webb was especially interested in the development
of Dallas surrounding country. His diary of old days in Dallas was given several
years ago to Southern Methodist University and is considered a very valuable
source on the early history of the community.
After farming for a number of years, Mr. Webb moved to Dallas and served on the
police force under Chiefs Ed Cornwald and Jim Arnold. Twelve years ago he moved
to Rockwall and lived with his son there.
He is survived by three sons, C. L. Webb of Dallas, S. E. Webb of Mobile, Ala.
and Mr. Webb of Rockwall; by two daughters, Mrs. C. V. Yeargan of Dallas and
Mrs. c. R. Emory of Merten, Texas.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Webb's Chapel, Farmers Branch.
