Gayle Stephens Weeks
February 14, 1937 - February 6, 2013

Born on February 14, 1937 to parents Oscar and Pansy Stephens, Gayle spent the first seven years of her life in Canton, Texas. At seven, her family, parents and sister Alfrieda, moved to Dallas where Gayle enjoyed roller skating in her free time. She attended North Dallas High School where she graduated in 1955.

On May 18, 1956, at the age of 19, Gayle nervously agreed to go on a blind date with a young Army man from Whitney, Texas named Bobby Weeks. A short three and half months later, Bobby was out of the service and living in the Dallas area and the two wed on September 1, 1956. The couple's first child, Charles Stephens Weeks, was born on December 6, 1957 at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. A few years later came another child, this time a girl. Vickie Renee Weeks was born on her daddy's birthday, October 19, 1960, also at Baylor in Dallas.

With two young kids, Bobby and Gayle searched for a church family to call home. They found Valwood Park Baptist Church in Farmers Branch and have been members there for the last 50 years. Gayle spent many years as an active member of the congregation, including teaching Sunday school and working with the youth ministry.

While the children were younger, Gayle was very active with crocheting things for her family and her neighbors. She made name plates for many families as well as beautiful, intricate afghan blankets. Gayle went to work when the children got older at Gabbert's Furniture store in Dallas, where she remained as an employee for the next 20 years. When Charles and Vickie were in school, the two were very active in sports. Even as a working mother of two with a hectic schedule of her own, Gayle was always present in the stands and never missed a game.

After their children left home, Gayle really enjoyed traveling the United States with her husband and proudly boasted that together they made it through about 40 of the states. After 56 years of marriage, Gayle is survived by her husband Bobby, their two children Charles and Vickie, and one granddaughter, Jackie.

Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Sunday, Feb. 10th at Rhoton Funeral Home with Funeral Services scheduled for 1 pm Monday, Feb. 11th at the Valwood Park Baptist Church in Carrollton. Interment will follow in Hilltop Memorial Park, Carrollton.
