OBITUARY
John West Jr. Services Set Funeral services
for John r. West, Jr., 74, former Dallas County surveyor, will be held at 10
a.m. Wednesday in the Sparkman-Brand Funeral Chapel, 2115 Ross.
West, who lived at 4721 Tremont, died Monday while visiting a son in Houston.
The son of a Dallas County Pioneer family, John
and Emma West, he was born in Farmers Branch. The family moved to Dallas when
West was six years old.
West's father and grandfather also were surveyors. West's son, Robert H. West,
now holds the office that his father held forty years. Twice in his career, West
forgot to get his name on the ballot, but won a write-in campaign.
He was a member of the University Park Methodist Church. He belonged to the
Tannehill Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner.
Survivors are two sons, Robert H. West of Dallas and John R. West III of
Houston; two daughters, Mrs. John W. Donaho of Corpus Christi and Mrs. Graydon
S. Johnson of Sulphur Springs, Hopkins County; eight grandchildren and one
great-grandchild.
Entombment will be in Hillcrest Mausoleum. Officiating will be the Rev. Alsie
Carleton, pastor, University Park Methodist Chruch, and the Rev. Glenn Flinn.
Pallbearers will be George Roush, Owen George, Dr. Watt Winn, Dr. Robert Winn,
Frost Winn, Gilbert Poindexter, Hancel McCord and Robert Stanton The Dallas
