Juanita "Lyane" Overall Willey

Juanita "Lyane" Overall Willey was born October 17, 1930, in Pilot Point, Texas. Her parents were Richard Auburn Overall and Edith Lavon Foust Overall. She grew up and lived in Denton, Texas. She graduated from the North Texas State Laboratory High School, Denton, Texas, in 1948. Lyane received a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in Art and a double first minor in Social Science and Recreation in 1954 at the University of North Texas and a Master of Arts Degree with honors in Art in 1962 at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. She was recognized as Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities and Who's Who in Art at North Texas University. Lyane enjoyed weaving and fiber work. Her weaving, fiber, ceramics, and plastics were selected and exhibited in Texas, regional, and national shows.

Lyane met William Riley Willey, III, while in college and they were married June 1, 1950, in the Little Chapel-in-the-Woods on the campus of Texas Women's College in Denton, Texas. They made their home in Denton, Texas. She was formerly co-owner of Penny Press, Inc. with her husband. They had shops in Denton, Fort Worth, and Arlington, Texas. She was in the teaching profession for 32 years in Texas. Lyane taught art at the elementary and middle school level in Denton, and at the high school level in Carrollton-Farmers Branch, and at the university level at North Texas University. Juanita also served as coordinator for all level art program for the Denton Public Schools. She taught self-contained elementary grades in Coppell and Denton. The couple spent 3 years in Amarillo, Texas, where Lyane taught art at the elementary level. In 1996, they moved to Mountain Home, Arkansas. Lyane enjoyed traveling with her husband throughout the United States and around the world.

Lyane was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mountain Home, Arkansas. She was a member of Delta Gamma. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and served as lota lota chapter president and member of Alpha state program and yearbook committees. Other organizations in which Lyane served as an officer include; Texas Designer Craftsmen, Contemporary Hand Weavers of Texas, Denton Hand Weavers Guild, Altrusa Club of Denton, and Denton Branch of American Association Shakespeare Clubs. She was also a member of the Texas Art Education Association, Texas Art Supervisors Association, Life member of the National Education Association, life member of the Texas Education Association, life member of Texas Retired Teachers Association, and life member of the North Texas Exes Association.

Lyane is survived by one son, William Riley Willey, IV, and his wife, Susan Marie Willey of Garland, TX; two granddaughters, Stephanie Marie Willey Denton and husband of Frisco, TX, and Amy Michelle Willey of Frisco, TX; two great-grandsons, Blake and Brandon Denton of Frisco, TX; one brother, William David Overall of Denton, TX; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Graveside Funeral Services will be 10:00 am, Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Kirby's Tucker Memorial Mausoleum, Open Air Chapel, Mountain Home, Arkansas.
