Yager, 92, of Mineola, Texas, passed away peacefully on December
27, 2024 in Mineola. Born in Dallas, Texas, on April 3, 1932,
Les grew up in Farmers Branch Texas, where he left an indelible
mark on the community he loved.
He was preceded in death by wife, Patty L. Yager; daughter, Beth
Yager; parents, John R. Yager and Alva Cartwright; brothers,
Robert L. Yager and
Billy Yager; sister, Susan Van Deilen;
great-granddaughter, Maisyn Davis
He is survived by sons, Ray Yager and Matt Yager (wife, Rachel);
grandchildren; Lance Yager, Katrina Yager, Jeremy (wife, Brooke)
Yager, Lanie Yager and Emily Yager. Great-grandchildren; Leeland,
Rylann, Abram, William, Lincoln, Lilah, Barrett, and Ryan.
Les proudly served his country in both the Texas Army National
Guard Tank Corps and the United States Air Force. While serving
in the Air Force as a Jet aircraft crew chief he was stationed
in Korea during the Korean War and was a recipient of the Bronze
Star.
Les was an amazing role model and inspiration to his family,
becoming the first paid member of the Farmers Branch Fire
Department in Texas. Over the course of 25 years, he rose
through the ranks, retiring in 1983 as District Commander. His
legacy as a dedicated public servant and leader went on to
inspire his son Ray and grandson Lance to follow in his
footsteps as firefighters themselves.
Les Yager will be remembered as a devoted husband, father,
grandfather "Poppy" and a friend to many. He leaves behind a
legacy of love, service, and resilience. |
