Home-Coming Day For Carrollton School The first "Home-coming Day" for
Carrollton High School was held Friday, Nov. 17. This day was the first of its
kind ever held in the school. Ex students came "home" to represent their classes
dating back as far as 1903, and to meet with their old class mates.
The public meeting meeting of this body of "boys and girls of yesterdays" was
held on the square at nine o'clock. The Carrollton High School Glee Club opened
the program with two selections, one of which was "the Last Round-up." Two
talented members of two by-gone classes rendered music relative to their time.
The early history of this community was related by R. A. Warner, who attended
the frst school in these parts. H. L. Goeiner (?) County Supt., and Tom W.
Field, County Commissioner of Dist. No. 1, spoke to the large crowd. Mr. Roy
Gravley, member of the class of 1917, acted as master of ceremonies. Some old
time fiddling music was then offered. Following the general program, members of
each class were presented and and it was very interesting to see the "old
timers" mingle and hear them relate their school experiences.
After the program was concluded the crowd returned the High School Building
where they visited the class rooms and saw the progress that had been made in
the school work. At one o'clock a gigantic parade started at the school building
and paraded the business and residential sections of town. An interesting
feature of the parade was the cars which were decorated to represent the various
classes from 1903 to 1933. Representatives of the class rode in the cars.
After the parade the crowd returned to the football field to witness the battle
between the Wilmer Hutchins Tigers and the Carrollton Yellow Jackets. Much
to the delight of the students and ex-students the Carrolton Yellow Jackets got
hold of the big end of the score 13-6.
Prior to the game on Friday the Carrollton High School staged a big pep rally
Thursday night and much enthusiasm was shown by the large crowd that gathered
for it. The main attraction of this rally was the gigantic bonfire.
