Turner Band Invited To Go To Hemisfair '68
The R. L. Turner "Lion" Band has been invited by Hemisfair '68 to be an
honored band at the Southwest's first world's fair to be held in San
Antonio, April Through October 1968.
The band will go to San Antonio in early May to play a concert on a floating
stage as they musically meander through he fair grounds on the recently
rechanneled San Antonio River. They will take a side-trip to San
Marcus to visit the Aquarena.
Last year the Lion band was selected from bands throughout the state to be
one of four honor bands at the annual Fiesta San Jacinto Band Festival in
San Antonio. Because of their outstanding performances, they have been
invited to participate in this year's Hemisfair '68
Several thousand dollars is necessary to finance this three day trip. During
the holiday season the band is selling delicious Manor "Texas Fruitcakes" to
help defray expenses. If you can use some cake in your holiday entertaining
