OBITUARY

Lane Brown Furneaux
APRIL 5, 1918 – JANUARY 12, 2022

LANE FURNEAUX was born April 5, 1918 (Ruby Lane Brown) and died on 01/12/2022 at the age of 103. She was born in Sumner, Mississippi with roots in Alabama, Georgia, and England. She loved becoming a Texan where she met her beloved Bill Furneaux in the 1950’s – who also had strong roots going back to England. Many honors were paid to her over her years of working with Brownie Scouts and making beautiful tussie-mussie bouquets for brides as well as English royalty and American First Ladies.

Lane was widely known as “The Herb Lady” since 1980 when she introduced the useful plants to local nurseries and grocers at a special Preston Royal Event. At the time, no books on the subject could be bought in Dallas, so she wrote one – a booklet entitled “Heavenly Herbs”. The final of several editions was the “Love Letters Edition” which was in demand at the Dallas Arboretum. She was an internationally known herb specialist.

She was predeceased by her husband, William Lakeman Furneaux. She is survived by cousins Anne Christy Beach & her son, Jeff, of Rowlett; Anne’s son, Michael Beach & his wife Kayla Moody Beach of Forney and grandson Hendry; Merle Morrow & Ciro Berdeguez of Sunderland, MD; Jeanie & Jim Moore of Jefferson, MD; and Billy Morrow of Ann Arbor, MI.

Lane is also survived by several of Bill’s relatives from the Furneaux/Morgan family and by the children at Furneaux Elementary School in Carrollton where Furneaux Road was changed to Furneaux Lane in her honor. A special thanks also goes to Lane’s devoted caregiver, LaShonda Taylor, who gave her time and love to Lane from 2011 until she died.

Lane will be buried at Bill’s side at a small, family only, service. Main service will follow at Rhoton Funeral Home; 1511 S. Interstate 35 E at Crosby Rd. in Carrollton, TX 75006 on Saturday, January 22 at 3:00. Her memorial service will be streamed which can be viewed at the Rhoton Funeral Home’s memorial page at https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/10529538.

In lieu of flowers, Lane has requested that any donations be sent to the charity of your choice.
